The latest from CURRENTS
The Port O’Connor chapter is kicking off 2026 with strong momentum, keeping habitat and conservation front and center in all our efforts. We want to extend a huge thank-you to Jerry and Brent for hosting our Anglers’ Nights Out (ANO) events at the legendary Hurricane Junction in Port O’Connor. Their top-notch hospitality, mouthwatering food, and ice-cold drinks make every gathering unforgettable. Be sure to stop by and support them next time you’re in POC!
Here’s a recap of our 2025–2026 ANO programs so far, along with what’s coming up: November 2025 local guide Kim Goulden shared insights on the current state of our fisheries, plus practical tips on methods and techniques to up your game on the water. January 15, 2026 we dove into oyster mariculture with a presentation from Blake Whitney, President of Three Sisters Oyster Company. Blake and his team recounted their early journey, including their first crop “planted” in July 2025. They wowed the crowd by shucking a sack of fresh, flavorful bivalves—definitely check them out at ThreeSistersOyster.com! March 2026: Look forward to our local TPWD game wardens Casey Willmon and Jake McMahen leading a discussion on current happenings.
Our board is hard at work planning the annual banquet on April 11, 2026—mark your calendars for a fun Margaritaville-themed night! Sharkies will be serving up those iconic cheeseburgers in paradise.
This year’s star raffle prize is a 14 kW Kohler generator, fully installed at your Calhoun County location, complete with a filled 250-gallon propane tank ready to go.
The Port O’Connor chapter stays dedicated to conservation and building community ties—we can’t wait for another year of making a real difference together!
