CURRENTS – December/January 2020
Howdy Texas A&M CCA, I want to start off by introducing our new slate of officers for the 2019-2020 school year. Aaron Richter, class of 2020, is our president. Madelyn Rayburg, class of 2022, is our Vice President. Secretary is Aaron Zavala, class of 2021. Morgan Kopecky, class of 2021, is our Treasurer. Our Activities Chair is Ty Marwitz, class of 2020. Collin Lawson, class of 2019, is in charge of all merchandise and Logan Prichard, class of 2019, is our Recruiting Officer. We are all looking forward to serving the chapter this year.
We have started out our fall semester by having meetings once a month to discuss how our chapter can be involved. On November 7, we had John Andrasko from the Bait Barn come speak to us. He talked about the different fish and bait that they raise on site and about the different fish that they are able to bring in for pond stocking. They also carry tackle and fishing gear. It’s a great local business in the Bryan/College Station area. Big thank you to Mr. Andrasko for coming out!
Early in the semester, we were looking for a project that would allow our chapter to do some hands-on work on the Texas Coast. We teamed up with Keep Aransas County Beautiful and organized a clean-up for the federally protected rookery islands in Little Bay in Rockport. On November 9, 16 of our members along with some of the members from Texas A&M Corpus Christi’s Islander Anglers and Helotes Chapter came down to Rockport to assist in the clean-up. In the 4 hours that the 43 volunteers worked, 4,600 pounds of trash was collected off the islands and the surrounding area of Little Bay. Thank you to the members of Helotes CCA for coming out and ferrying people and trash to and from the islands. Aransas Bay CCA was gracious enough to cover the cost of pizza for us after the clean-up and also covered the dump fees for all of the trash. Thank you Aransas Bay CCA for your generosity! A huge thank you to Mrs. Williams with KACB for helping us with this project. Our members had a blast getting involved and making a difference. We are looking forward to working with KACB in the future.
On November 12, Aaron Zavala and Madelyn Rayburg were guest speakers at A&M Consolidated High School’s FFA meeting where they informed the students all about CCA. Aaron brought in some of his fishing gear and gave the students some fishing tips and told them about some local fishing opportunities. It was nice to see younger people excited about an organization like CCA.
Save the date for our annual banquet on May 1, 2020. Keep an eye out on our social media pages for more information, meeting dates and chapter updates. -Madelyn Rayburg
