A note from CCA Texas Advocacy Director Shane Bonnot:
We would like to let our CCA Texas members know about, and encourage to attend, the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council (Council) Meeting. It will take place from Monday, June 24 through Thursday, June 27, 2024 at The Omni Houston Hotel in Houston, Texas.
During this meeting, the Council plans to:
- Continue discussing and developing a new Charter-For-Hire Data Collection Program.
- Continue working on distribution issues and requirements for participating in the Individual Fishing Quota Program (Catch Shares).
- Work on modifications to Spanish mackerel catch limits and king mackerel management measures.
- Review regulatory options for the management of Wahoo.
- View presentation on wind energy development in the Gulf of Mexico and Texas law enforcement efforts in the Gulf of Mexico.

Council meetings are open to the public, and we would love to see our CCA Texas members there. No advance registration is needed; just come up to the 2nd floor of the hotel and follow the signs to the Council meeting. I strongly encourage CCA Texas members to attend on Tuesday and Wednesday if your schedule permits. Importantly, there will be an opportunity for public comment on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024, from 1:30 – 5:00pm. This is a valuable chance to share your thoughts on offshore fisheries management with the Council. Public input is crucial and can make a difference.
