There were 101 participants who entered the tournament. Awards were given for three places in each of three categories, Heaviest Flounder, Heaviest Trout, and Heaviest Redfish. An award was also given for the Redfish with the Most Spots. A raffle was held in which each participant who weighed in a fish received raffle tickets or could purchase additional. We received donations from many major supporters of CCA to make up a final raffle of 18 packages including rods, reels, wading gear, tackle, fishing trips, an Autographed Andre Johnson Jersey, gift certificates and many other great items.
The Topwater Grill served a great buffet of which the quality was only outdone by the quantity. We had 16 volunteers which included many CCA Members and the Chorizo Crew Weigh Team. The San Leon Fire Department was also on hand and after the weigh-in took donated fish from the participants for a charity fish fry event to be held at a later date to honor Galveston County First Responders. We estimate over 250+ fish were donated to this future event. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept. also provided a couple Game Wardens to on be hand to answer questions.
At the end of “a very windy day”, Awards and Raffle Items valuing at over $10,000 were given out to the winning participants. Thanks to all the donors, volunteers, and participants, the event was a great success and we look forward to doing it again.
