Pledge of $5,200 will Support Interns for 2014
Houston, Texas – As part of its ongoing commitment to conserve and enhance the state’s marine resource, Coastal Conservation Association Texas has announced that it will fund two Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Law Enforcement (LE) Summer Internships for candidates who are on the career path to become Texas Game Wardens.
“Our support of internships for fishery biologists and game wardens is at the heart of our mission. We need good science and enforcement to ensure the conservation gains we make are sustainable for future generations,” said Ronnie Luster, Chairman of the TPWD Committee at CCA Texas. “The training and requirements to become a Texas Game Warden are among the most stringent in the nation, and CCA Texas is proud to provide support for qualified candidates in this challenging career.”
CCA Texas will provide a total of $5,200 to fund two LE Interns, who will work part-time for 20 hours a week alongside Texas Game Wardens for a two-month period during the summer.
“Through research I have been able to identify 24 LE Interns that are active duty Texas Game Wardens today,” said Lieutenant Kevin Malonson, Texas Game Warden Recruiter. “I personally was drawn into this career path and within a 13 year period was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. I understand firsthand the importance of an internship and the mentoring associated with the hands-on experience one receives.”
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation (TPWF) and a program known as The Al Henry Natural Resource Conservation Internship Program (NRCIP) will handle the receipt and dissemination of these particular funds granted by CCA Texas. The positions supported by CCA Texas will be concentrated along the Texas coastal areas, keeping in line with the organization’s mission focus.
“It is a hands-on way to see if the job is a fit for both the intern and TPWD,” said Luster. “This is just the continuation of our long standing support and working relationship with TPWD.”
